What is Muck away?

May 09, 2018

Basic facts about Muck away

Muck away can be explained as the process of removing spoil from construction sites during earthwork processes. It usually is necessary after the removal of the topsoil which is referred to as the vegetable soil, hole excavation, bulk excavation, pit excavation, and reduced-level dig. When dealing with a redevelopment site, muck away will specifically involve removal of stone, bricks, reinforced concrete and made ground.

Classification of Muck away

Muck away is classified into inerthazardous and non-hazardous

  • Inert muck away can be defined a waste that has not gone through any chemical physical or biological changes and is less likely to affect any other matter that it comes into contact with. They include brick, concrete, hardcore soil and subsoil.
  • Hazardous muck away can be defined as a gathering of waste that has properties that make it harmful to the human health and the environment at large. This type of muck way can be done for example when clearing a petrol station.
  • Non-hazardous muck away can include a collection of different waste products that are considered not harmful to the environment and human life.
Other classifications of muck away include waste that is as a result of clearing sites. This seemingly is anything that is from a location that is being dug that may include mud and waste as result of digging. It also includes farmyard cuttings including leaves.

What to Expect from Muck away Services

Muck away services are mainly hired for waste removal and clearance from construction sites, from industrial sites and even from farmlands. Their main customers are local governments, real estate and corporation builders, recycling firms and even privately owned businesses.

Muck away services are expected to abide by the law and the legislation of the locality in which they provide services to ensure that whatever muck they collect from the abovementioned clearance sites is safely done away with and predisposed securely.

Sending to Landfill

Some Muck away services offer waste acceptance criteria which are initialised as WAC. This is the how waste will conduct itself when it is buried in a landfill in case it has to stop there.

It is important also to note that this is not a determinant of whether the waste materials are hazardous or not. It shows the leachate that could be conducted when water is passed over it. This test is however limited to waste that has to go to landfill.

Most Muck away services strive hard to decrease the number of waste materials that go to landfill. For instance, hard-core bricks can be crushed and used for the construction of roads whereas green waste materials are used in creating compost that can be sold to fertiliser companies.

In conclusion, soil and spoil can be returned to land. Returning to land is achieved by the companies to ensure we recycle and reuse more than is sent to Landfill.
